Alicia Keys is a leading star in the American music industry.

She sings and writes songs related to American soul, neo soul and R & B. She is also a famous actress, author, pianist, music video director, record producer and philanthropist. She has also received several awards like the American Music Awards (3), Billboard Music Awards (11) and Grammy Awards (11).
Alicia Keys spent her childhood days in Harlem’s fringes of Manhattan in New York. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Manhattan’s Professional Performing Arts School. She entered into a demo contract with Jermaine Dupri’s label So So Def.
She wrote a song jointly with Jermaine and recorded it as “Dah Dee Dah”. This song was used on ‘Men in Black’s’ soundtrack. Alicia Keys also recorded “Rear View Mirror” and “Rock wit U”. “Rock wit U” was used in the film ‘Shaft’ whereas “Rear View Mirror” was featured on “Dr Dolittle 2”’s soundtrack. ‘Songs in A Minor’, her first album was released afterwards.
 ‘Songs in A Minor’ sold more than 235,000 in the first week of its release. It was released on the 25th of June in 2001. The total number of copies of this album was ten million. This made Alicia Keys popular in the United States and even other parts of the world. The first single of this album was “Fallin”, which remained the number one song on the American Billboard Hot 100. After the attack of 11th September, 2001, Alicia Keys gave her performance at the concert ‘America: A Tribute to Heroes’ with the song “Someday We’ll All Be Free”.
The second album released on the 2nd of December, 2003 by Alicia Keys, was ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’. More than 618,000 copies of this album were sold in its first week and became the sixth best-selling album which was releases by a female singer.

Till date almost nine million copies of this album have been sold across the whole world. Popular singles by Alicia Keys include “If I Ain’t Got You”, “You Don’t Know My Name” and “Diary”. Alicia Keys has received the “Best R&B Video” at the MTV Music Awards (2004) and four Grammys at the Grammy Awards (2005).
